Bournemouth share spoils in draw with Hamble

Written by Carlo Simone (@CSimonejourno)

Bournemouth earned a 1-1 draw with Hamble, after an electrifying first five minutes that preceded a largely uneventful affair.

In the third minute striker Max Norrish cracked a delightful effort in off the crossbar, before Hamble’s Josh Batt tapped in from close range just two minutes later.

Bournemouth were playing just their second home league game of the season, after going down to a 2-1 defeat to Fareham in midweek.

They sought to make amends for that result with a blinding start. Norrish cut in on his right foot, and sent a brilliant effort in off the crossbar to put Poppies in front.

However, they couldn’t savour their lead for long, as Hamble equalised just two minutes afterwards.

A low free-kick on the right-hand side found its way through the penalty area allowing Batt to have an easy tap-in.

From that point on the game turned quite scrappy, with occasional half-chances breaking up the play, with most of those coming from Hamble.

Both Ryan Turner and Luke Mitchell sent efforts over the bar, whilst Brandon Chebby hit the side-netting from a tight-angle.

The closeset the Monks came to taking the lead came right before half time, when Michael Byrne headed just wide from a corner.

Poppies had not had much control on the game, but improved slightly at the start of the second half.

Norrish got close to intercepting a backpass to Hamble goalkeeper Ellis Grant, but whilst he got the ball round him it ended up trickling out for a goal-kick.

Poppies then had a huge let-off as Byrne somehow headed wide from point-blank range as a free-kick was whipped in superbly.

The game then became slightly more engaging with ten minutes remaining as Hamble’s Ricky Bull received a second yellow card for what the referee perceived to be a deliberate handball.

However, it ended up being Hamble who looked more likely to get a winner as substitute Jack Nicholas went through on goal, but it was deflected wide for a corner.

Lewis Harvey dragged a free-kick wide, after substitute Efedje was brought down, and that was the last of the Bournemouth chances.

Hamble then did get the ball in the net in the last minute, as a free-kick was headed in, but the referee disallowed it for a foul on goalkeeper Kacper Kowalczyk.

The full-time whistle blew soon after, with a draw probably being favourable to Bournemouth, but with the positive of it being another point gained.
