FA Cup preview Basingstoke FC v’s Poppies

The competitive 2020/21 season gets underway for “The Poppies” on Tuesday evening (1st September) as they face Basingstoke FC in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.

Basingstoke FC are current members of the Southern League Division 1 South, a league above Bournemouth FC however Poppies manager Leo Cabeleira’s new look side will be sure to give the favourites a hard fought contest and book themselves a place in the next round against last seasons successful FA Cup runners Chichester City.

Bournemouth FC have started well during pre-season with a recent 5:0 victory over Bournemouth Manor FC. The confidence of Poppies goal scorers is running high so they’ll be looking capitalise on this adding yet more goals to their already impressive tally following the pre-season friendlies.

New signings Jamie Wilson, Max Norrish, Jack Kinge-Phillips, Dan Seymour, James Johnstone and Liam House could feature in tonight’s FA Cup fixture however it will be the experienced Will Prior previously at Wimborne Town FC who brings the knowledge of Southern League football to “The Poppies” and no doubt will keep the teams minds focused on the task ahead.

With Basingstoke FC having no ground of their own at present the away fixture for “The Poppies” will be played at the Rivermoor Stadium which is the home of Reading City FC.

Travelling fans for “The Poppies” are advised to arrive at the ground in plenty of time to allow for all FA COVID-19 measures to be followed on entry and whilst in the ground.

Kick off 19:45. We hope you enjoy the game.
